CANADA 6, ITALY 1
Canada: Dawson Mercer, Damon Severson, Ryan Graves
All three Devils representatives picked up assists as Canada cruised to a 6-1 victory over Italy on Sunday at the Ice Hotel in Helsinki.
Dawson Mercer had two assists, while Damon Severson and Ryan Graves each had one assist. The three combined for a plus-3 while Graves had four team best shots.
Travis Sanheim, Josh Anderson, Nicolas Roy, Kent Johnson, Dysin Mayo and Noah Gregor scored for Canada.
Next: Canada takes on Slovakia on Monday.
USA 3, AUSTRIA 2 OT
United States: Luke Hughes, Jon Gillies
Austria: Ben Baumgartner
Devils defensive prospect Luke Hughes scored 3:07 into overtime to lead the United States to a 3-2 victory Sunday at Nokia Arena.
Hughes, New Jersey’s fourth pick in 2021, scored on a breakaway. He also recorded 18:42 minutes of ice time. Adam Gaudette and Kieffer Bellows also scored for the Americans.
Austrian Ben Baumgartner had two shots in 8:06 minutes of action.
Next: The Americans will face Finland on Monday.
SWITZERLAND 6, DENMARK 0
Swiss: Nico Hischier, Jonas Siegenthaler
Captain Nico Hischier had an assist while compatriot Jonas Siegenthaler added a plus-1 for Switzerland in a 6-0 win over Denmark at the Helsinki Ice Hall on Sunday. Goalkeeper Leonardo Genoni stopped all 19 shots against.
Fabrice Herzog, Timo Meier, Pius Suter, Janis Moser, Philipp Kurashev, Denis Malgin all counted for the Siss.
