Sustainable Food Center

The mission of the Sustainable Food Center (SFC) is to cultivate a healthy community by strengthening the local food system and improving access to nutritious and affordable food. SFC envisions a food secure community where all children and adults grow, share and prepare healthy, local foods.

From seed to table, SFC creates opportunities for individuals to make healthy food choices and participate in a vibrant local food system. Through organic gardening, relationships with local farmers, interactive cooking classes and nutrition education, children and adults have increased access to locally grown foods and are empowered to improve the long-term health of Central Texans and the environment.

Volunteer opportunities with CCC vary. Some of the ongoing opportunities include helping with the information booth at SFC Farmers Markets, volunteering in the garden, and packing seeds for Spread the Harvest.

SFC’s annual Farm to Plate fundraising event celebrates Central Texas’ generosity with some of Austin’s most acclaimed local restaurants. The tasting and walking event features bites from chefs who are dedicated to sourcing local and sustainable food from area farmers. Farm to Plate also offers local craft cocktails, local wine and beer, live music and a silent auction.

Joining the SFC Sustainer Circle with an annual support donation is the most effective way to ensure the longevity of SFC’s work and the momentum they have created in this essential food movement. Benefits vary by membership level, but include things like a parking pass to SFC Farmers Market Downtown and advance purchase opportunities for classes and events.
