Navjot Singh Sidhu’s special seven-meal diet in Patiala prison: Lactose-free milk, juice, almonds, chamomile tea and Lassi included

Patiala: Cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu is currently serving a one-year sentence in a prison in Patiala in a 34-year-old road rage case. In prison, Sidhu requested a special diet due to his medical condition. The Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) granted special permission.

A panel of doctors have been appointed to prepare a diet for the former Punjab Congress leader. Panel dietician Dr Ramanjit Kaur, Dr Ashish Kumar Bhagat and Dr Saurabh Sharma. The panel prescribed a special seven-meal diet for Sidhu.

Here is the special seven-meal diet recommended for Sidhu:

Morning regimen: Depending on the diet, the former Indian cricketer will get a cup of rosemary tea, half a glass of white petha juice or a glass of coconut water.

Breakfast, a cup of lactose-free milk; a tablespoon of flax, sunflower, melon or chia seeds; five to six almonds, one walnut and two pecans will be provided.

Mid-morning meal: a glass of beetroot or ghia (gourd) or cucumber or mausami (sweet lemon) or Tulsi leaves and mint or amla (gooseberry) or celery leaves or fresh haldi (turmeric) or juice carrot or aloe vera. Sidhu can also have fruits among watermelon, melon, kiwi, strawberry, guava, apple and forest apple. He can also opt for sprouted black chana (25g) plus green gram dal (25g) plus kheera (cucumber)/tomato/half lemon/avocado.

To eat lunch: Sidhu was recommended a 30g chappati comprising equal amounts of sorghum, singhara and ragi flour with a bowl each of seasonal green vegetable and cucumber and ghia raita or a bowl of beetroot raita, green salad bowl of cucumber, tomato, kakri, lettuce leaves and half a lemon) and a glass of lassi.

Evening: It is recommended for the cricketer-turned-politician to have a cup of 100ml of tea with skimmed and unsweetened milk and 25g slice of paneer or 25g of tofu with half a lemon.

Having dinner: Sidhu can have a bowl of mixed vegetables and dal soup/black chana soup with a 200g bowl sprinkled with black pepper powder and made with sautéed vegetables (carrot, beans, broccoli, mushroom, bell pepper).

Bedtime: Sidhu was recommended a cup of chamomile tea and a tablespoon of psyllium husk with half a glass of warm water.

The President of Congress is also advised to drink 10-12 glasses of water a day. According to doctors, he should avoid processed foods and saturated fats, including desi ghee, white butter and butter. The panel also recommended the use of olive oil, rice bran oil, mustard oil, or cold-pressed mustard or sunflower oils. The use of iodized salt in small quantities is prescribed. Sidhu is advised to exercise every day for at least 30-45 minutes.

He must be on oral anticoagulant for life due to his medical condition. Doctors say Sidhu should continue taking folic acid and vitamin B-12 supplements.

Notably, Sidhu suffers from medical conditions such as embolism and suffers from liver disease. In 2015, he also underwent treatment for acute deep vein thrombosis (DVT). The imprisoned Congress leader will serve as a clerk at Patiala Central Jail.

Sidhu’s medical examination took place on May 23 at the Rajindra Hospital in Patiala, Punjab. Sidhu was sent to jail on May 20 after he surrendered to a local court. The congressional leader was sentenced to a rigorous one-year prison term by the Supreme Court in the 1988 road rage death case.
