Meet the Newcomers: Carly Thatcher
A crop of new Tigers is on the Plains and ready for the 2021 season. Follow over the next two weeks as we reintroduce our 2021 class through a question and answer segment with each player.
Our next newcomer to be reintroduced to the Auburn family is the freshman midfielder Carly Thatcher.
Hometown: Greer, South Carolina
High school: Riverside High School

Date of Birth: May 11, 2003
Q: Who or what inspired you to play football?
A: I was inspired by my older brother to play football. He is two years older than me and had been playing football for a few years. I always wanted to be like him, so I stopped dancing and started playing football.
Q: What is your favorite football memory growing up?
A: My favorite football memory is going to San Sebastian, Spain with my club team and playing a tournament there. We ended up winning the tournament, and I was able to take the trophy to everyone in the circle and lift it. We were all cheering and going crazy.
Q: What is your greatest achievement on or off the pitch?
A: My biggest achievement was joining Auburn University to play D1 football. This is something I am very proud of because it has shown that all these years of hard work have paid off.
Q: Do you have any pre-game superstitions?
A: My only pre-game superstition is putting on my left sock first, then my right sock after.
Q: What were your main factors in choosing Auburn?
A: I always knew I wanted to go to a big school in a big conference like the SEC, and I like the atmosphere of the campus, as well as the atmosphere of the football team. The football team is very competitive and the team chemistry is great.
Q: What’s your favorite Auburn tradition?
A: My favorite Auburn tradition is to ride Toomer’s Corner after a big win. I was actually in Auburn for an unofficial visit and was able to experience it with my family. We went to Toomer’s Corner after a soccer win and hit the trees.
Q: What are you most excited about for the coming season?
A: I’m very excited to get bloated in the locker room before games. I was able to sit in the locker room before a game on a visit and the energy was there through the roof so I can’t wait to be a part of it.
Q: If you could eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
A: If I could eat one meal for the rest of my life, it would be chicken pie.
Q: If you could have a super power, which one would it be and why?
A: If I could have any super power, I would like it to be teleportation because I could travel and explore the whole world when I have the time, and it would be free.
Q: What’s your favorite movie or TV show?
A: My favorite movies are Harry Potter and my favorite TV show is Criminal Minds.
Q: What major do you plan to pursue and what led you to choose this subject?
A: I am majoring in biomedical sciences because I want to study medicine and become a dermatologist.
Q: What are your biggest goals while in Auburn?
A: My biggest goals in Auburn are to prepare for medical school and also make some lifelong best friends along the way.
