After a dramatic Day 1 that saw Ishan Kishan and Deepak Chahar strike the most jaw-dropping deals as India’s hardened T20 representatives went to the bank on the opening day of the IPL mega-auction where the franchises registered their highest bids for home-grown talent, Day 2 has more action and drama in store for us as the franchises will now be looking to round out their squads.
The winning bid of Rs 15.25 crore from Kishan of Mumbai Indians surpassed the Rs 14 crore figure that CSK offered to keep Deepak Chahar on Saturday. Franchises have been cautious in their overall spending, but have not been shy about loosening the purse strings for established artists, especially Indians.
In US dollar terms, there were over 20 million buys, by far the largest of any IPL auction, with most of the beneficiaries being Indian T20 specialists.
It was a satisfying ‘payday’ for all current India internationals with Shreyas Iyer securing a staggering Rs 12.25 crore deal from Kolkata Knight Riders and versatile Shardul Thakur breaking the bank from the Delhi Capitals with a Rs 10.75 crore.
These two, along with Kishan and Chahar, were the top four purchases of the day.
